Crucial’s P510 Proves Even DRAMless SSDs Can Be Speed Demons

11,000 MB/s Sequential Reads

SSDs continue to evolve and Crucial’s P510 is proof there is still plenty of room for improvement at the bottom.  The P510 uses Phison’s 4-channel DRAMless E31T SSD controller with Micron’s 3,600 MT G9 flash on a PCIe Gen5 x4 interface and it proves you don’t need the expense of a DRAM cache to have a fast drive.  TweakTown’s testing revealed it does come within a hair of the rated speeds of 11,000MB/s sequential reads and 9,500 MB/s sequential writes.  If you prefer IOPS, 1.5 million IOPS read and 1,500K IOPS for write is every bit as impressive

For random reads, 107MB/s is more than respectable, showing the P510 is more than just a one trick pony.  When it comes on sale you should see if for around $120 for the 1TB and $200 for the 2TB version, not bad for a PCIe 5.0 drive.  You may also appreciate that the design of the P510 means passive cooling is enough to keep the drive happy, no need for a fan on the heatspeader.
